A great article about Matt Costa and his upcoming record release for “Unfamiliar Faces” has been printed in the Santa Barbara Independent.
Pre-Order the new CD from NewburyComics.com, “Unfamiliar Faces” by Matt Costa and get a limited autographed CD Booklet with purchase! The US release date is January 22, 2008.
Matt Costa takes his D.I.Y. ethos to the extreme, becoming a one-man band in ‘Mr. Pitiful,’ the debut single from Costa’s forthcoming album, ‘Unfamiliar Faces.’ Costa took his singular rig to the streets of San Francisco and toured Santa Cruz, performing his hook-laden album opener in the Malloy / Tim Wheeler co-directed video. The video also features the photography of Autumn de Wilde. It may look easy but the folk crooner had to do a bit of training before spending hours in the heavy, odd contraption.
Enjoy the video exclusively on Spinner.

On November 6th, Vegoose and Bonnaroo will release “Thank You. Goodnight. Live Tracks from Bonnaroo and Vegoose,” a collection of 10 live performances from Jack Johnson, G. Love & Special Sauce, Matt Costa, Money Mark and ALO. The album will be available to purchase at Independent Music Stores in the US, at both Bonnarroo and Vegoose music festivals, as well as at the artist’s websites.
A preorder through Musictoday will begin instantly through Bonnarro and Vegoose websites. All preorders will automatically register for a chance to win a grand prize package of Brushfire’s full artist catalogue along with two guest VIP tickets for Bonnaroo 2008.
Over the past few years, Brushfire artists have been pleased to be a part of the amazing festival lineups at both Bonnaroo and Vegoose. This compilation captures just a few of the great moments laid to tape in Manchester and Las Vegas, including:
Jack Johnson’s “Island Style” a duet with local Hawaiian star John Cruz as well as “Staple it Together”, and “Constellations”, two tracks from his 2005 triple platinum LP In Between Dreams.
G. Love and Special Sauce’s “Take You There” from 1997’s Yeah It’s That Easy, and “Hot Cookin’” from his latest (and fastest selling) LP Lemonade.
Matt Costa’s “Song We Sing” and “These Arms” from his debut album, Songs We Sing.
Money Mark’s “Color Of Your Blues”, from his debut LP Brand New By Tomorrow.
ALO’s “BBQ” and “Wasting Time” from their 2005 release Fly Between Falls.
Carrying on the tradition of great festival appearances, ALO performed at this weekend’s Vegoose Festival, held October 27th and 28th at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium. The lineup for Bonnaroo 2008 will be announced early next year.

Matt played the Detroit Bar frequently before launching into stardom with his debut album “Songs We Sing”. Matt played a surprise show at the Detroit Bar as a warm up to his mini tour supporting Modest Mouse.

California’s Matt Costa will soon release his latest collection of folksy pop tunes, called Unfamiliar Faces, his second on Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records. The album is slated for an January 15 release, and follows up on his 2006 debut full-length Songs We Sing. Costa had released two EPs before meeting Johnson, and their collaboration extends beyond the label—Costa opened for him on both his U.S. summer 2005 tour and his Europe 2006 tour, and also sings with Johnson on a track from his Curious George soundtrack.
Matt Costa returns January 15 with Unfamiliar Faces, his follow-up to 2006’s Songs We Sing. Just 25, the intense Costa locked himself his his bedroom to write the new record, and in the spring of 2007, teamed up with Songs We Sing’s producer, No Doubt’s Tom Dumont, to begin recording the newie.
“Being around Tom, it was easy to have all these feelings flow naturally. One of the first things he told me to do was to stop practicing and just let it come out – it was like the light went on in my head,” says Costa. “The more you learn about something, you still might not fully understand it, but at the same time that’s what keeps it fresh – that’s the key to music.”
